2019-2020 Fall-Winter Wrestling Season is on!

The 2019-2020 Fall-Winter Folkstyle wrestling season is underway at the Virginia Wrestling Academy. The Beginner-Intermediate Stafford Highlanders and the Advanced Virginia Wrestling Academy wrestlers have started training and registration is ongoing. This summer training session that just ended in September had a historically epic high of 43 wrestlers, Elementary school through High School ages, training throughout the 2nd summer of VWA’s new program in Stafford County led by Head Coach Keith Wilson. Now that a solid base of wrestlers are tuned up in Folkstyle, additional wrestlers will join the base and begin to round out the traditional winter folkstyle season. The Stafford Highlanders are eager to continue their participation in the Northern Virginia Wrestling Federation developmental league. Meanwhile, there are some up and coming hammers, being cranked out by the VWA Advanced Program, who are ready to continue attacking across the Virginia Commonwealth and national-level wresting scene. This includes last year’s State Champion, 6th grader Nick Blake, and the USA Wrestling Southeast Region Freestyle and Greco-Roman Placer and 2018 Grand River Rumble All-American, 8th grader Corey Bell. Corey also represented Virginia this past spring on the Team Virginia 14U Schoolboy National Duals team where he went 6-1 wrestling Freestyle and 3-2 wrestling Greco-Roman up in Indianapolis, Indiana. Other regular VWA names you will begin to see at the top of the High School podiums in the coming years include previous National Champion and now 6th grader Tyler Traves, 8th grader Gus Fleming (Stafford County MS Champion, Stafford MS), 8th grader Chance Wingert, 8th grader Goeff Whelan (AG Wright MS), 8th grader Ethan Miles (Rodney Thompson MS), 8th grader Nick Sanders (Gayle MS), 8th grader Eva Brussard, 9th grader Parker Trahan (Stafford County MS Champion, Heim MS, now at Brooke Point HS), 9th grader Remus Montalvo (Stafford County MS Champion, Heim MS, now at Brooke Point HS), 9th grader Jack Erbe (Stafford County Middle School Champion, now at Colonial Forge HS), 9th grader Jacob Wright (Riverbend HS), 10th grader Nathan Sanders (Mountain View HS), 11th grader Josh Leggett (Mountain View HS), 11th grader Assem Chew (Mountain View HS), 11th grader Ava Thomas (North Stafford HS), and 11th grader Brianna Devine (Brooke Point HS).
